Daughter Can’t Reach Father Stuck in Japan After Typhoon, Asks for Aid

A British woman whose father is stranded in Japan following Typhoon Nanmadol has made an impassioned plea for help after struggling to contact him for three days.

HONOKA, JAPAN – Anna Buckley’s father, John, 75, was on holiday in the coastal town of Miyazaki when the typhoon hit on Sunday, bringing with it torrential rain and winds of up to 145 miles per hour (233 kilometers per hour).

The storm, one of the most powerful to hit Japan in recent years, has caused widespread damage and flooding, leaving millions of homes without power and water. Telecommunications have also been disrupted, making it difficult for those affected to contact loved ones.

Buckley, who lives in Manchester, England, said she had been unable to reach her father since the day before the typhoon struck.
