* **Midwife-led care:**
– You’ll be cared for by midwives throughout your pregnancy, labour and birth.
– Midwives are experts in normal birth and will provide you with the support and guidance you need.
– You can choose to give birth in a variety of positions, including in a birthing pool.
* **Waterbirths:**
– Cosham Birth Centre has two birthing pools that you can use for labour and birth.
– Waterbirths can be a relaxing and pain-relieving way to give birth.
* **Gas and air (Entonox):**
– Entonox is a safe and effective pain relief option that you can use during labour.
– It is a mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide that you breathe in through a mouthpiece.
* **TENS machine:**
– A TENS machine is a small device that sends electrical pulses to your body.
– These pulses can help to relieve pain during labour.
* **Birthing ball:**
– A birthing ball is a large, inflatable ball that you can use to help you relax and move around during labour.
– It can also be used to help you get into different positions for birth.
* **Acupuncture:**
– Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves inserting thin needles into the skin.
– It can be used to relieve pain and promote relaxation during labour.
* **Homebirths:**
– If you are low-risk, you may be able to give birth at home.
– You will need to discuss this option with your midwife.
**What to expect at Cosham Birth Centre:**
When you arrive at Cosham Birth Centre, you will be greeted by a midwife who will assess your progress and discuss your birth plan with you.
You will then be shown to a birthing room, where you can labour and give birth in a comfortable and relaxed environment.
Your midwife will be with you throughout your labour and birth, providing you with support and guidance.
After the birth of your baby, you will stay in the birthing room for a few hours to recover.
You will then be transferred to the postnatal ward, where you will stay for a few days before going home.
