Rajnath Oka on Ranjha Okays Maternity Child Care Leaves for Women Soldiers of All Ranks

NEW DELHI: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday approved the implementation of the long-pending demand of granting maternity leave of 6 months and child care leave of 2 years to women officers of all ranks in the Indian Armed Forces. The Defence Minister also approved the formation of a high level committee under the chairmanship of Secretary Department of Military Affairs to look into the issues related to women in Armed Forces and recommend a roadmap for enhanced participation of women in the Armed Forces. He also approved an equal opportunity policy for women officers to serve in all branches and commands, at par with male officers. These decisions will bring about a major shift in the policy regarding women in armed forces. The proposal to grant 6 months of maternity leave in line with Central Civil Service (CCS) rules was pending since 2019. .
